After an initial screening of all applications received, the directors of the competition for the Performing Science Award will nominate ten candidates to participate in the public finals in Giessen on September 17, 2011. On the day of the finals, the candidates will give their presentations or lecture performances of up to 20 minutes each (in English or German language). For reasons of practicality and to ensure a smooth implementation of the competition, the candidates need to adapt the format of their presentations and performances to the local conditions of the lecture room in which the finals will take place. For this purpose, an information sheet with the necessary details regarding the local premises and the technical equipment will be sent to the participants in due time. The competition on September 17, 2011, including the discussion of the jury, will be open to the public. The prizes will be awarded during a ceremony on the evening of the competition day.
Procedures for entry:
Application materials must include
- a significant description in written form or a video recording (DVD) of a short presentation or lecture performance, which, however, does not necessarily have to be the presentation or lecture performance to be given in the competition,
- related supplementary materials (manuscript of the lecture, outline of its methodological concept and principal ideas, explanatory notes, transparencies/slides, etc.), and
- personal data and a short overview of the scholarly or artistic interests (see the “Application Form”).
Submissions are to be sent to the following address with the reference “Performing Science”:
